Shema + Modeh Ani Prints (Blue Wave)

from $25.00

This is an archival giclée print of a work that was made by hand drawing and digital collage.

The gradient of color, which forms a wave shape, is meant to represent the flow of breath. In one image, the text of Shema rests below a gradient arc that moves from lightness at the top into darker hues of color below the arc. In the other, the prayer Modeh Ani rises from the bow of color below, ready to meet the day. This is meant to represent the way one goes from wakefulness to sleep, and the miracle of waking up again each morning. These pieces were made to correspond to one another though each is able to stand alone elegantly.

I think of the images of Shema and Modeh/Modah Ani as “in conversation” with one another. The words of the Shema and Modeh/Modah Ani prayers are spoken to mark the end of the day and to give thanks for the opportunity to be granted another day on earth. In Judaism is said that in sleep a person is partially dead. It may sound morbid or off-putting but I like to think that it is a hyper intuitive time when we can better connect with our inner minds and with those who have crossed beyond the veil.
